The 5 inch miniature telescope

The Miniature Telescope

When I think of a five inch telescope this isn’t exactly what I have in mind!

Although it is a fun little project and a neat little telescope.

I made this little telescope as part of a stop motion animation project and it came out pretty good. It reminds me of a story from very long ago; When I was a pre-teen my grandmother asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I told her I wanted a six inch telescope. She ordered me one! The exact one I wanted. And wow was she surprised when a large crate was delivered to her house! Really. She put out her hand, showing me the palm and exclaiming : “You said it was a six inch telescope! I was expecting something this size!”

True story 🙂

Anyhoo, I now have made a five inch telescope that is more to grandma’s expectations 🙂

It is an equatorial refractor and here it is made out of a couple of pieces of wooden dowel that I got from the home depot and a few scraps of balsa wood. This is a prop in my stop motion animation project. But now that project is over and I keep this little telescope on my desk. I like it.

The body of the telescope is a wooden dowel and the eyepiece is part of a toothpick. I glued it all together with a hot glue gun.
