Some Notes about finding and observing the planets:
The inner planets (Mercury, Venus) can be difficult to spot and because they are so close to the sun will spend most of their time in daylight hours when you can't see them. Your best time to look for them is an hour or so after sunset as the sky gets real dark. If the constellation is visible then you can find the planet.
The Outer Planets (Mars,Jupiter,Saturn,Uranus,Neptune, Pluto) Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn all tend to get very bright and can be easy to spot. Uranus is much more difficult to spot with the naked eye. Neptune and Pluto cannot be seen with the naked eye; You will need a telescope for them.
